What the seller might not mention.
Questions, answered.
Is the free check really free?
Yes. MOT history, advisories and mileage readings come from official DVSA records, so there’s no charge and you don’t need an account.
Where does the data come from?
The free check uses the DVSA MOT history service, plus tax status from the DVLA where available. Model reliability comes from the DVSA’s published MOT results. Full history reports are provided by Motorscan, which searches police, insurance and finance company records.
What does a full history check add?
Outstanding finance, stolen records, insurance write-offs, plate changes, previous keepers and a valuation. None of that is in the public records the free check uses.
How does Sweep make money?
Motorscan pays us a commission when you buy a full report through Sweep. The free check stays free.
How accurate is the mileage check?
It uses the reading recorded at each MOT. A drop between tests is a strong warning sign, though there can be innocent reasons such as a replaced dashboard. Ask the seller for paperwork.
Can I check my own car?
Yes. Save it to your garage and add its MOT and tax dates to your calendar, so you get a reminder before they’re due.
