How to spot a clocked car
Winding back the odometer makes a car look younger and worth more. Here is how to catch it.
Check the MOT mileage trail
Every MOT records the mileage, so the readings should go up with each test. A drop, or several years of tiny increases, is a warning sign. Sweep shows the full trail for free.
Look at the wear
A worn steering wheel, shiny gear knob, bald pedal rubbers or a sagging driver’s seat on a low-mileage car does not add up. Trust what you can see.
Match the paperwork
Service stamps, invoices and old MOT certificates all record the mileage. Ask to see them and check the readings rise in date order.
