Safety recalls

4 DVSA recalls for the Fiat Multipla

Most cover a batch of cars built in a set period, and dealers fix them free. Sweep’s check shows the recalls for a car’s age and whether the DVSA has one outstanding.

R/2007/1737 Dec 2007Built 2007Brakes may fail

Due to the possibility of a fault in the production process the flexible rubber brake hoses may not have been correctly vulcanised. As a consequence may partially or totally restrict the internal flow of the brake hydraulic fluid. Should this happen a reduction in efficiency during braking would occur.

Fix: Recalled vehicles will have the hoses checked to identify if they are within the affected batch. If this is the case they will be replaced with quality assured items.

R/2006/2242 Feb 2007Built 2006Possibility of a fuel leak and risk of fire

Due to the incorrect profiling of a rigid fuel pipe at the quick fit connection with the flexible fuel pipe for the injection manifold. The possibility exists that a fuel leak may develop at the connector and result in a fire in the engine compartment.

Fix: Recalled vehicles will have a locking insert fitted within the quick fit connector in order to prevent the connector from becoming loose.

R/2006/08526 Jul 2006Built 2002–2003Brake fluid may leak

It may be possible for the handbrake cable to foul the rigid brake pipe at the right hand rear suspension arm. In time this could lead to wear of the rigid brake pipe and as a consequence there maybe a loss of brake fluid and longer stopping distances.

Fix: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected to check the routing of the handbrake cable and fit rubber pads to the rigid brake pipe to prevent fouling.

R/2006/01524 Mar 2006Built 1999–2004Suspension coil spring may break

Under environmental conditions that require intensive use of salt on the roads corrosive deposits accumulate inside the noise-insulating protective sheath located on the front suspension springs creating areas of corrosion which may lead to the spring breaking after a period of time.

Fix: Recall the vehicles that are likely to be affected and replace the front coil springs with those of a new type.
